Social Media Paper

I would say the social media platform that I really craft my personal message through is instagram. I have never been asked this question before so it is hard to give a response. But the cliché way to put it is photos really can portray your life the way you want it. I really enjoy sharing the cool things that I am doing on instagarm that sounds really self-centered but while I was working for delta airlines I was able to travel the world with my flight benefits. I would get upgraded to Business Elite and I would want to share with all of my friends the experience I got to have. It sounds very egotistical now that I put it down on paper but I have used it for more purposeful things as well. I was a competitive skateboarder and I had many young girls reach out to me and tell me how much they looked up to me as a person and as a skateboarder. So I wanted my image to be positive and inspiring, helpful yet encouraging. I would post photos of my skateboarding to get my message out there.

I guess the ease of use with Instagram and the inability to customize a lot of things makes it a very uniform platform. Everyone’s content can’t look to drastically different form the next. Which is why I really like it. You also have the ability to have multiple accounts. I have one for my business. So I get to express my image through my business which happens to be along the same lines as my personal account I’m just more out there about selling products than I am on my personal Instagram. I also like Instagram because your feed is things you chose to follow and that’s also how you can personalize your message. Not only about what you post but about what you follow. For example for my business account I only follow other business accounts so when I am logged into that account I can view updates from other businesses.

It’s really fascinating that social media has created these niches that allow people to find so many different things and interests. It also allows entirely new economies to be created that never existed before. Which I think we will really see evolve in the next ten years or so. What’s popular won’t be just what is popular to everyone but what’s popular to you and the people that share the same interest as you. I also believe that all of this contributes to your personal message making it possible for people to share personal interest and beliefs that could never be shared before. This is kind of monumental in a way because it has never been done before.

Instagram is my personal favorite because it’s so simple; sharing just one photo at time can convey such complexity and such simplicity all in one post and nothing before it had been able to do that. So that is where the draw to Instagram comes for me. Also being able to see all of my other interests displayed in simple photos for me to see.

Another thing Instagram does is help connect you with people who have the same common interest which is really helpful when you are trying to grow your brand or business through this social media platform. You can also find other ways to portray your own message by looking at others and how they are doing there own branding. It’s almost like free marketing advice if you know where to look and how to look for it. So all of these things come into play when delivering your own personal message.

Some disadvantages of using Instagram are if you don’t have a very good cell phone camera because you do want your photos to be of a decent quality especially if your posting photos on behalf of your business. To some people the inability to make changes to the layout and format of their page might be a disadvantage to them. Also some business might have a hard time showing what they do through photos or short video clips so Instagram might not be for them. The entire service industry might have this problem. I guessing it would be very difficult for a lot of service-based companies to portray their service in this manner.

So all together I believe that Instagram is a great social media app because it is very easy to use and visually appealing. It’s a quick way to get your message across without having to take the time to write a blog or edit long videos. This creates a platform where people can get all of their interests quickly without having to filter through blogs and other sites. Instagram just lays out what you want to see very simply.
